Our online language courses will:
- Provide two-year, college-level language instruction in Chinese, Japanese and Russian and give you the college credits as regular on-ground courses if you are a college student. (Non-GT college students or college graduates need to be admitted as a special student. See Class Registration Info for more details.) High school students can take our courses through DLPE, but no academic credits will be given.
- Combine both asynchronous and synchronous instructions.
You do individual work on materials on our Website AND attend fully voice-enabled Live Classroom sessions every week to practice your conversation skills with an instructor and peers.
- Thanks to the small class sizes, you will get more personal attention during the live classes than those in regular classes.
- The class content taught online is equivalent to the class content taught in regular, on-ground courses. GT Students can switch courses between online and regular courses.

Technical Requirements
To join our online courses, you need to:
- Have a computer with a full administrator access running Windows XP or Mac OS X. (Windows Vista and Linux may work but they are not supported.) Public lab computers often do not work since you are not allowed to change their configurations as needed.
- Have broadband Internet connection. No dial-up connection is accepted since it will slow down the class progress for everyone.
- Configure your system and browser and install free softwares --- Language options (Chinese, Japanese or Russian), Live Classroom client software, Java, Flash Player, QuickTime, etc. (Some instructors may ask you to install additional software --- Skype, Second Life, etc.)
- Use Internet Explorer or Firefox for Windows or Safari for Mac. Other browsers may work, but they are not supported. You also need to enable pop-up windows and disable some third-party software that is incompatible with our software.
- Connect a microphone headset to your computer to talk with your instructor and classmates. No built-in or loud speakers are allowed because they will create feedback-loop noises.
- Some homework is required to be handwritten, and you need a scanner (not a digital camera) to scan such homework and upload the files to the designated Website or fax your homework. (You are NOT allowed to hand-deliver or surface-mail your hardcopy homework or submit it by email without prior consent from your instructor.)
- If your computer's audio connection fails after entering Live Classroom, you must call the simulcast number by phone (long-distance phone call) in order to join/continue with the audio portion of the class. Make sure you access LC from within the room where you have authorized access to make a long-distance phone call.
- If you cannot take mid-term and final exams on campus, you need to find an exam proctor (e.g., usually your supervisor or facilitator who agrees to follow our procedures).
You need to enroll in one of our online courses to receive your login information. The following are the steps to enable your computer to access our online courses. Click on the links on the left.
If you register late or don't hear from us after registration
If you register late, sometimes your registration information does not reach us in time for the first live class. Sometimes this also happens if we don't have your email address or if your email address is input incorrectly somewhere. If you have completed your registration but have not heard from us by the first week of semester, please email your instructor (Contact info links on upper right of this page) for further information (Don't forget to include which online course you have registered.)
Additional Notes
- Special students (non-GT college students or college graduates): You will receive an admission notice from GT Admission Office. It explains how to register online to obtain your initial user ID (GT login ID) and GT email address in order to login to the GT services (includig our online language course content). You need to do this by yourself, and if you have any problems, contact the Admission Office. Instructors cannot help you with obtaining your initial user ID.
- Online Chinese and Japanese course students only: Everything can be accessed through GT's T-Square. You only need the initial username (GT login ID) and password to access these courses.
- Online Russian course students only: Your courses are separated into two platforms---GT's T-Square for Live Classroom and USG's WebCT Vista for the rest of the course content. We create your second login account to access USG's WebCT Vista (usually the same user ID but a different password). If we have your Georgia Tech email address, we will send your login information for USG's WebCT Vista to that address. Please make sure you check your GT email address frequently. If we don't have your GT email address, we will send it to your original email address you supply at the time of registration (if it is known).
- If you get "The requested resource (/sakai-login-tool/) is not
> available." error, you bookmarked the login-tool page of T-Square. Go to http://t-square.gatech.edu/ to access T-Square and bookmark only this page, not the resulting login-tool page.
